In General

The first part of Veda are called Samhita. So we have four samhitas: Rigveda Samhita , Yajurveda Samhita, Samaveda samhita and Athervaveda Samhita. Vedavyasa had collected the verses and edited it before 3000 BCE ; so it may be written many millenniums before his period.

Samhita part is the most important part of Veda for it is considered as the revealed Mantras. It is not created by any but viewed by Rishis in their deep meditative state. The mantras are there in Paramevyomen and Rishies were accessible to few of them and wrote them for the entire humanity.

The other parts of Veda, namely Brahmana , Aranyaka and Upanishds are studies on Vedasamhita at a much later period
