Samhita is a collected work; The word meaning is, something put together. These works are not by a single person, for example: Rigveda samhita is by more than 400 Rishis and Kishnadvaipayana Vyasa is its editor
There are many other collected works called as samhitas. Its editors were generous enough to say that they have collected the information of their guruparambara and put it into a text. Some of the famous samhitas are Charaka Samhita, Susrutha Samhita , Atri Samhita , Brighu Samhita , Kashyapa Samhita , Birhat Samhita , Garga Samhita.
The word samhita basically connote to Vedasamhitas: Rigveda Samhita , Yajurveda Samhita, Samaveda samhita and Athervaveda Samhita.
