The yoga expounded by Pantanjali in the Yoga Sutras having eight limbs: yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, dharana, dhyana, pratyahara, Samadhi is called Astangayoga

Yama and Niyama are ethical principles to develop a positive personality.

The yama consist of five limbs meant for self-restraint. They are: ahimsa (abstain from cruelty), sathya (hold truth), astheya (non stealing), Brahmacharya (celibacy), aparigraha (non covetousness)
