Ahimsa is restraint from initiating violence, harm, injury to other living beings by actions, words or in one's thoughts. Ahimsa is a fundamental quality which respects all living things on earth. It is one of the five moral rules (Yama) a sadaka has to follow according to Astanga yoga of Pantanjali.
