sāgara
A king of Iksaku dynasty. He was Son of Bahuka who lost kingdom by “Haihaya” and “Taljanghi”. Sagara recaptured Ayodhya from the “Haihaya” and “Taljanghi” Kshtriyas. He had two wives Sumati and Kesini. In sumati he had 60 thousand sons. And in Kesini one child known as Asamanjasa. He won many lands in military expedition and then he attempted to perform the horse sacrifice, Ashwamedha Yajna, but the sacrificial horse was stolen by the god Indra on the south eastern shores of the ocean, which was at that time an empty bed with no water in it. At least sixty of Sagara’s sons died attempting to recover the horse, also causing great destruction by their reckless search. His son Asamanjasa was of bad character so he trasfered the kingdom to his grandchild Anshuman.
