Gunas or qualities of a man is divided into three: Satva, Rajasa and Tamasa. Tamas or Tamoguna represent not so good qualities. It need not be fully bad, but not advisable. For example, Eating meat, praying to god with hope for reward are by tamogunas. The advice Krishna give in Bhagavad Gita is to get improved and tread towards the satvaguna which is the refined of all.
