Wife of Gautama Maharshi.

Purana

Ahalya was the beautiful wife of Gautama Maharshi. According to the Ramayana, Rishi Gautama once went to take bath in the river Ganges early morning. Indra, was verymuch fascinated with the beauty of Ahalya, came in the form of Gautam and pretended love to Ahalya. Ahalya was not aware of this cheating; however, when Gautama Maharshi came back and saw Indra in his hermitage, he cursed Ahalya to became a stone. In tretayuga Sri Rama came and touched the Ahalya-stone with his feet at the advice of Viswamitran. Ahalya regained her old women hood and joined with Gautama Maharshi.
