ṛcika
Sage Richika was the son of sage Urva, a descended from sage Bhrigu. He was father of sage Jamadagni.
The story of sage Richika is told in the epics Mahabharata and Vishnu Purana. Princess Satyavati, the daughter of Gadhi, the king of Kanya-kubja is his wife. She is also sister of sage Viswamithra. At first, the king Gadhi was not willing to give his daughter to an old a man Richika. So King Gadhi demanded from the sage Richika 1000 white horses, each of them having one black ear. The condition as we know was very tough to accomplish. But the poor sage Richika made a prayer to Lord Varuna; pleased with his prayer God Varuna gave him the horses as required. Sage Richika presented the horses before king Gadhi. King Gadhi had consented and gave princess in marriage to the sage.
