An Upanishad Rishi and son of Sage Uddalaka. Svatasvetara Upanishad is by him. He is a character in Brhadaranyaka, Chandogya and Kausitaki Upanishad. He married Suvarcala , daughter of sage Devala in a svayamvara . He had authored the first book on Kamasastra
