Rajjusarpa Nyaya
रज्जु सर्प न्याय
rajju sarpa nyāya
Rajusarpa analogy is a basic example every modern speakers of Advaita quote to establish the Maya theory. According to Advaita the world is Maya, an illusion and there is only the Brahman, the Absolute exists. Sankara in his interpretation on Brahmasutra do not quote this analogy, it appeared first in Bhahmati, a detailed work on Sankarabhasya of Brahmasutra by Vachaspati Mishra. Sankara used only a handful of occasion the term Maya. But his followers made the advaita philosophy a Mayavada by the rajjusarpa nyaya.
