Another name of river Ganga or a tributary of Ganga. It is traditionally believed that Ganga start with the tributary Bhagirathi which had its source in Gangotri glaciers

Purana

Bhagiratha, the grandson of King Sagara brought down Ganga to earth to get released of his 60,000 ancestors from the curse of sage Kapila. Ganga is called Bhagirathi because of this story.
