Sauta Sutra is a smriti literature and which describes customary duties to be followed while doing Yajna. It developed during late Brahmanical period. Various Sakhas on each Veda got its own Sauta Sutra and is part of larger literature called Kalpasutra. The Sauta sutra contain direction for the laying of sacred fire, for the Agnihotra, the Darsapaurnamasya, the chaturmasya, the Pasuyaga, the great aswamedha, the Rajasuya, Vajapeya sacrifices and the like. They totally occupied with the social worship said in Vedas.
