There lived in the Kadali forest on the banks of the Kalindi an Asura called Dhenuka. The forest was thick with palm trees. Out of fear of the Asura nobody dared to enter the forest. Sri Krishna and Balabhadra having heard about Dhenuka one day went to the forest with their companions. Balabhadra shook down a lot of the palm fruits, the Gopalas loudly cheered him. The Asura rushed forth challenging them; in the subsequent fight Krishna and Balabhadra thrashed him to death.
