A large division of Army. One chariot, one elephant three hourses and five foot soldiers constitute one basic unit called Patti. Three such pattis makes one senamukha. Three senamukha form one Gulma. Three gulma makes one Gana and three such Gana makes one Vahini. Three Vahini form one Pratana. Three Prathna makes a Chambu and three Chambu makes an Anikini. Ten Anukini form an Akshauhini.
An akshuhini thus consist of 21870 chariots an equal number of elephants, 65610 horses and 109350 soldiers.
Mahabharata war was fought by 11 akshuhini in Kaurava side and 7 in pandava side.
