In General

Sakteyas use the word Tantra for Agama. Sakta Agamas hold Sakti, The divine mother as the supreme Godhead. The special virtue of the Tantra lies in its mode of Sadhana. It is neither mere worship (Upasana) nor prayer. It is not lamenting or contrition or repentance before the Deity. It is the Sadhana which is the union of Purusha and Prakriti. Another specialty feature of the Tantra is that they preach the motherhood of god, and simultaneously with it, a glorification of women. The Shakta Agamas or Shakta tantras are 64 in number and grouped into Dakshina marga (right-hand) and Vama marga (left-hand). Many of these texts are in the form of conversation between Siva and Parvati. It is by the power of the Devi, the divine mother the Brahman manifest. Among the Shaktha-agama texts, the better known are: Mahanirvana, Kularnava, Kulasara, Prapanchasara, Tantraraja, Rudra-Yamala, Brahma-Yamala, Vishnu-Yamala and Todala Tantra.
