Yajnavalkya Smriti as its name suggest is by Sage Yajnavalkya and is considered next only to Manusmriti in terms of popularity and importantance. This code of conduct has two well known commentaries: The Mitaksara of Vijnanesvara (12th Cent. AD) and Balakrida of Visvarupa (9th Cent. AD). Some scholers are of openion that Visvarupa was the name of Suresvara, one of the four important disciple of Adi Sankara before accepting Sanyasa.
