Kautsa was an eminent scholar, or great personality found reference in Nirukta. As opposed to the etymological view of finding importance to the meaning of the hymns Kautsa supported the tradition which stresses the Vedic Chanting. He was of the view that The Verses in Veda Samhita do not contain any deep meaning but to be chanted in customary order according to the Brahmana Texts. To him, Brahmanas are the authoritative Texts and the Vedic Hymns only substantiate the rules of Brahmana Texts. His Ideas are similar to Mimamsaka School of thoughts

Yaska oppose him right from the introductory section (Nirukta 1.15-16)
