Dandaniti
दण्डनीति
daṇḍanīti
Dandaniti is the criminal law and procedure of India while Hindu rulers were in power. Court functioned in fair manner, but there was some cast discrimination on punishments. In most of the case people are fined or beaten for their wrongdoings. Capital punishments, cutting body parts and such cruel acts have happened very rarely. The ancient text served only as a guiding light and the punishment is done on precedence. So, the amount of punishment was not uniform in all ages.
