Dadhichi was son of Rishi Atharvan and Shanti, the daughter of Daksha. He was also called Dadhyang. He married Suvarchi and had a famous son in her as Rishi Pippalada. He was the preceptor of Gods when Brihaspathi left them for a brief period. He is well known for giving his bones for the making of Vajraudha (thunderbolt weapon) for Indra to kill the demon. It is said that he would sit in meditation at a place for years together and ants would make anthill around his body.
