Dayananda Sarsvati , Maharishi
Maharishi (swami) Dayananda Sarsvati (1824-1883 CE ) was a leading reformer within Hinduism in the nineteenth century and the founder of the Arya Samaj. He was born in Gujrat in a traditional Bramin family; he accepted sanyasa at very young age and move the length and breadth of India and made deep impact in the society with his thoughts and work. He was a great scholar in Veda who interpreted the Samhita , Brahmana and many other Vedic texts for the new generation. His approach was modern with due consideration to uplift society and his advice is to go back to Veda and search the root of Hindu ideology.
He was pioneer in inspiring the English educated new generation of his time, which was the need of the hour. The freedom struggle leaders like Bal Gangadhara Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai, V D Savarkar and many others recognize him as their source of inspiration.
