Bhahmati
‘Bhahmati ‘ is a detailed study on on Sankara bhasya of Brahmasutra. The authorship of the text is ascribed to vachaspati Mishra, a 9th Century CE scholar. The theory of rajusarpa (a rope is mistaken as snake) analogy is by him. Sankara, though spoke about advaita did not stressed too much on Maya in his works on Brahmasutra, Upanishad or Bhagavad Gita. The later philosophers upheld the position of Vachaspati Misra and advaita turn to be Mayavada.
Total denial of the phenomenal world is not a Vedic concept. Veda respect Prakriti, its multiplicity and its temporal existence. To many philosophers, questioning the very existence of world, which is the only experience men had, only derail all the ethical and spiritual principles and confuse people. None of the spiritual luminaries who lead mass movement in the medieval period supported rajusarpa analogy and mayavada. However, the absolutism held by academic scholars like Vachaspati Mishra have a theoretically high position as far as logical arguments are considered.
