Dhruva was son of King Uttanapada and Suneeti He was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. Once he felt his half brother had insulted him and for that reason he left home and did Tapas for very long period. Lord Vishnu appeared before him and asked for boon. As an ideal bhakta he asked only Bhakti as a reward. The story of Dhruva's life is often told to children as an example for perseverance, devotion, steadfastness and fearlessness.
Dhruva was a successful king who ruled the country in the most honest way. Dhruva was married to Bhrami, daughter of Sisumara Prajapathi and had two sons Kalpa and Vatsara and a daughter called Ila. When he reached the old age, he left the palace for Bhadrikashrama in Himalaya and became a hermit. The Lord Vishnu blessed him with the eternal existence and glory and he assumed the place of Pole Star

Syumbhuva Manu had two sons called Priyavrata and Uttanapada. Uttanapada married Suruci and Suniti. A son called Uttama was born to Suruci and to Sunili was born Dhruva.
Lord Visnu once appeared before Dhruva and revealedto him his previous birth. Dhruva was a Brahmin in his previous birth. He practiced meditation and other religious activities. In course of time he befriended with a young prince who was enjoying all the pleasures of the world. Attracted by the position and status of the prince, the Brahmin wanted to become a prince. Mahavisnu granted his wish. Accordingly Dhruva took his next birth as the son of Uttanapada
Dhruva was also married to Sambhu, to them were born two sons named Sisti and Bhavya
