Harigita is a set of 22 verses which describe the code of conduct for a sanyasin. Its author Harita was found mentioned in Mahabharatha. Harita also authored a Darmasastra.

Some of the rules for sanyasins are: A sadaka desirous of moksha should accept acetic life. He should be contented and should not find fault with others. He should be broadminded, friendly with others and should be able to bear any insult others hurled at him. He may approach householders for alms only after they finish their food and accept only the bare minimum which enough for his survival. He must have self control, live in lonely place and should practice meditation. He must be detached from the worldly things and always desirous to have moksha
