Arani
अरणि
araṇi
Arani is fire inciting device used by Vedic people. The sacred agni for the yagna is produced by rubbing two tinder sticks which form arani. Agni, the all-knower, hidden in the fire-sticks, is evoked thus and then carefully preserved and kept alive by use of other materials.
The two tinder pieces are Heaven and Earth which provide Agni. Heaven is the father, Earth the mother which when interact kindle the Agni, the God and the Purohita.
