Hiranyagarbha
हिरण्यगर्भ
hiraṇyagarbha
The unmanifested creation in seed state. Since He keeps it in his womb as it were, before manifesting it, He is called Hiranyagarbha. It is a state before creation hence imagined as a golden egg.
Aurobindo in his commentary on Kaivalya Upanishad says: The power of Hiranyagarbha is in Brahma and creates through him the Nama Rupa of the things in this cycle (of life). Hiranyagarbha has no shape and cannot appear before man as a God (Like Siva or Vishnu)
In BrU Gargi ask Yajnavalkya after a serious of question which leads the origin of material world to Hiranyagarbha, as to what is the basis of Hiranyagarbha. For that Yajnavalkya got angry, discouraged Gargi to ask such question which do not have any answer (just like asking where does black hole come from).
Hiranyagarbha is created in each Kalpa and Hiranyagarbha is the creator Brahma.
Matsya Purana states: Hiranyagarbha manifest itself after Mahapralaya
