Rakshabandhana
The tying of amulet of protection by a sister or a sisterly lady to her brother or brotherly person. This custom is prevalent in most part of the country.
The mantra chanted on the occasion is: yenabaddho Baliraja Danavendro Mahabalaha Thethathwa mabhi badhnami Rakshemachala maachala. Meaning: “I tie on you that whereby Bali, the powerful king of demons was bound. O protective amulet! Stand at your side forever!”
once after a severe austerities queen sacidevi tied a raksha on her dethroned husband Indra to win a war against demons and get back his kingdom.
