T he Manus are regarded as the progenitors of the created universe. Swayambhuva Manu is the first Manu of the present Kalpa and is traditionally credited as the author of the Manusmriti. The universe is currently in the period of the seventh Manvantara, presided over by Vaivasvata Manu.
