In General

Pada means foot. A full posture of a person is from head to toe, so all the worshiping deities are sulptured or painted in full size. Pada or foot got special significance as a humble devotee find it as the best place to touch and worship. The custom of touching the Guru and elders to seek blessing is very traditional to Hindus. It shows one's humility and not slavery as it is criticised. Even Kings takes blessings of his guru by touching the foot.
