Kashi is often called as a city older than the history. Most of the ancient cities said Purana are not in existence now, but Kashi is an exception. Kashi is also called by the names, Varanasi and Banaras. Kashi has got a very high place for Hindu world as it was the seat of learned scholars for many millennia. A large bulk of Vedic and Puranic literature were recovered from the city. It is the seat of Lord Visvanatha, one of the 12 Jyothirlingas.
TThe Name Kashi derived from the King Kasa who ruled from the place. His Genealogy is as follows: Visnu - Brahma - Atri - Candra - Budha - Pururavas - Ayus - Anenas - Pratiksatra - Srnjaya - Jaya - Vijaya - Krti-Haryasva-Sahadeva-Nadina - Jayatsena -Samkrti- Ksatradharma-Suhotra-Sala - Arstisena-Kasa
Divodasa was a king in the lineage, he developed the country in par with other developed countries in Bharatvarsha.
