Nalakubara and Manigriva

Sanskrit

In General

Krishna was very naughty while a young boy. While he was hardly two year old he had broken milk pot by pushing it down. Angry at this Yasoda tied the child to a mortar with a cord. But, Krishna then began running, dragging the mortar behind him. Dragging the mortar (Ulukhala) behind him he passed through a narrow gap between two trees. The trees fell down and at once two devas rose up in the sky. The two trees were actually Nalakubara and Manigriva, the sons of Vaisravana, both of whom had been cursed into the form of trees by Narada.
