Asvini Kumaras or Ashvins are twin deities that are given an important place in R.V. They are always young handsome and are expert physicians.

Veda

Ashvins are lord of bliss and divine physicians who render the human body free of disease so that it can accept the devine Prana, the life energy. At least 50 suktas are in R.V. in praise of Ashvins.

Purana

They are considered as twin sons of surya and his spouse Samjna when they had assumed the horse form.

There are several stories regarding Asvins. They provided youthfulness to old sage Chyavana at the request of his chastite wife Sukanya. To Madri, wife of Pandu they provided two children, the Nakul and Sahadeva.
